The CB/T 3844-2000 Roller Type Chain Stopper is a heavy-duty marine deck fitting designed to secure and guide the anchor chain between the anchor windlass and hawse pipe. It combines a chain-locking mechanism with a large guide roller, allowing the anchor chain to pass smoothly through the stopper while providing reliable chain holding during anchoring and navigation.
When the stopper is closed, the locking bar engages the anchor chain and transfers chain tension to the ship’s structure. This helps isolate the anchor windlass from continuous anchor chain loads and reduces unnecessary stress on the windlass brake, gearbox and other components.
The integrated roller supports and guides the anchor chain as it moves through the anchoring system, helping reduce friction and improve chain alignment.
Manufactured according to CB/T 3844-2000, the roller-type chain stopper is suitable for anchor chains with diameters ranging from approximately 42 mm to 132 mm, making it suitable for medium and large commercial vessels, offshore vessels and other heavy-duty marine applications.
Boomarine can supply different sizes according to anchor chain diameter, vessel specifications and project requirements.

Features of CB/T 3844-2000 Roller Type Chain Stopper
1. Integrated Roller Guidance
The large roller guides the anchor chain smoothly between the windlass and hawse pipe, helping maintain proper chain alignment during anchor handling.
2. Reliable Anchor Chain Holding
The locking mechanism securely engages the anchor chain and helps transfer anchoring loads away from the windlass.
3. Reduced Windlass Load
Once the chain stopper is engaged, anchor chain tension can be transferred to the vessel structure, reducing continuous loading on the windlass and its brake system.
4. Heavy-Duty Construction
Designed for large anchor chains and demanding marine environments, the robust steel structure provides excellent mechanical strength and long-term reliability.
5. Wide Chain Size Range
Available for anchor chains from 42 mm up to 132 mm, providing options for different vessel sizes and anchoring system requirements.
6. Marine Corrosion Protection
Marine-grade protective coatings can be applied to improve corrosion resistance in saltwater, humidity and harsh offshore environments.
7. Easy Inspection & Maintenance
The relatively straightforward mechanical construction allows convenient inspection of the roller, shaft, locking mechanism and supporting structure.
8. Custom Manufacturing Available
Dimensions, materials, coating systems and installation details can be customized according to vessel drawings and project specifications.
How Does a Roller Type Chain Stopper Work?
The roller type chain stopper is normally installed on the deck between the anchor windlass and hawse pipe.
During anchor handling, the anchor chain passes over the integrated roller, which helps guide the chain and reduce unnecessary friction.
After the required anchor chain length has been deployed, the locking mechanism is engaged with the chain. The stopper then holds the chain securely and transfers the chain load to the ship’s deck structure.
This arrangement reduces continuous loading on the windlass and helps protect the windlass brake and transmission system.
During anchor recovery, the locking mechanism is released so the chain can move freely over the roller toward the windlass.
Applications of CB/T 3844-2000 Roller Type Chain Stopper
The CB/T 3844-2000 roller type chain stopper is designed primarily for marine anchoring systems and can be used on:
